I love this grip. Those of you who follow this blog regularly remember my post last month about the Gridiron Grips from BestGrips.com. Those were for your irons and woods, this one, is for your putter.
The Gridiron Putter Grip
Just like the other grips in the Gridiron family, the Gridiron Putter Grip is made from the same leather material as a football. The feel is identical and it is held together with the "baseball-style" stitching. The major different between the two grips is the flat front of the putter grip, which allows you to keep your hands quiet while making your stroke.
(The flat front of the Gridiron Putter Grip allows your hands to be more relaxed)
It's no secret, I have never been a great (or even good) putter. Earlier this year, I made the change from a round grip to one with a flat front and it has made a world of difference for me. I have had my best season putting including a couple of rounds with under 30 putts. I can't promise the same for you but if it's broke, try and fix it. When you buy a putter, the grip is a standard grip the company puts on all of their putters (that model). If putting is all about feel, shouldn't you have something in your hands your comfortable with?
(The baseball like stitching keeps the leather together)
In all fairness, this grip may not be for everyone. Just like the Gridiron Grips for irons and woods, if you don't like the feel of a football, this is not the grip for you. I can't stress that enough. This feels and even smells like a football (I would have done the taste test but my football is too dirty to taste). Only consider this grip if you really enjoy the way a football feels.
Those of you who listen to WAM Golf Radio, know the story of my friend who lost his clubs in a recent garage fire. I couldn't think of a better way to help him rebuild his set than with a putter. I went out, bought a putter and had the pro at Dick's Sporting goods put this grip on (he did it in about 30 seconds and didn't charge me because I bought the putter). Being a huge football and New York Giants fan, he is going to love this grip.
Overall
My opening line sums it up. I love this grip. When I had the grip put on, I went over to a putting green and putted around with it. I loved the feel. I brought it around my office to see what other golfers thought. They all loved it. Is it for everyone? No. If you don't like football, leather grips, or the way a football feels, do not buy the Gridiron Putter Grip. If you love the feel of the pigskin and want to change your putter grip, I highly recommend trying this grip out.
