Willsboro Golf Course is a privately owned 9-hole facility located in the town of Willsboro, New York. Not familiar with it? I wasn't either until two years ago. It's a small lake town located on Willsboro Bay, a body of water attached to Lake Champlain. It's located about 30 minutes south of Plattsburgh, New York and just 90 miles from Montreal.

Willsboro Golf Course
There isn't much to say about this course. The 9-hole facility is exactly what you would expect from a small municipal course (although it's privately owned). The par 35 plays only 2,465 yards offering one par 5, 2 par 3's, and 6 par 4's.
Despite being a lake town, this course is tucked away in a tree lined part of town. I suspect lake front property is too expensive to put a municipal golf course on but this serves it purpose and at only $10, I can't complain.
The 4th hole, a 314 yard par 4, is given the #1 handicap hole. The slight dogleg right has the most challenging approach shot on the course. The right side of the green is guarded by a steep fall-off with woods below it. Anything to the right or long will force you to hit a blind shot back up to the green. The 6th hole is the only par 5. It plays at 439 yards and offers anyone who puts a decent drive out into the fairway a chance to make eagle or birdie. My drive left me about 150 yards in, sadly I couldn't put it on the large flat green from there.
(The green on the 4th hole is protected by a steep hill & woods on the right side)
The Par 3's
There are only two par 3's on the course. The 2nd hole and the 9th. They are nothing to great but offer some challenge with slight elevation changes. The 2nd hole plays at 162 yards and the 9th hole plays at 146.
Willsboro Golf Course Playing Tips
- The greens are slow! They are big and flat but slow is the key word here.
- The 3rd hole is wide open if you miss to the right
- The greens are perched slightly. If you are near the edge, your ball will roll off.
(The large flat green on the 6th hole, a 439 yard par 5.)
What WAM Thinks
If you're visiting the area and looking to play a quick 9 holes, this place will do the job. It's nothing special. It's fairly easy, wide open, and cheap. Don't expect anything more and you'll enjoy your time. If you are up in the area, enjoy the lake! It's beautiful country and a great getaway from the city life.

Notes: This was republished with a correction. The original article listed this as a "municipal" course. It is in fact privately owned. Thank you to Richard for pointing this out!

Willsboro Golf Course is privately owned. Your comment "Play Again: Only if I'm in Willsboro and craving a round of golf" is accurate. WGC is a good course, but it needs to be updated.
