I can't prove this but I have to be one of the least "handy" people on Earth. Connecting a hammer to a nail is a big success for me if nothing breaks, like the wall or my finger.
Why do I tell you this? I want you to REALLY understand how easy it is to change the spikes in your golf shoes. It's something I have never done before because I didn't think I could. I would wear them out and then get new golf shoes. I never realized how important it was to have good spikes until earlier this year when my foot started sliding out from under me. I decided I needed to do this.
(Comparison: My old spikes on the left and new spikes on the right. Notice how worn out the old spike is)
Changing Your Spikes is Easy & Cheap
I decided the best way to show how to do this was create a short video (2 minutes and 17 seconds) demonstrating what you need to have and do:
(Note: This is my first attempt at a video on my blog so stick with me and let me know what you think)
As you can see in the video (and for those of you who can't see it), all you need is the key or tool to remove the spikes, a set of new spikes to replace the old ones and your golf shoes (<--- That could be the most obvious thing I ever write in this blog).
How Much Will This Cost Me
They "tool" to remove and put your spikes in cost me $4.99. The spikes themselves cost me $15.99 for 16 spikes. My shoes only require 14 so it's nice to have a couple extra in case I make a mistake or one breaks while playing.
The spikes I bought are the Pulsar made by Softspikes. They had a less expensive set (I can't remember the cost) and they also had a more expensive set.
(Up close and personal, the new spikes have a new home in my shoes)
Any Problems Getting the Old Spikes Off?
A few of the old spikes had dirt or rocks in the holes where the tool goes. Get a small sharp object (be safe and have proper supervision if required) to remove the debris inside. This will allow the tool to lock into the old spike and let you remove the spike properly.
What WAM Thinks
Now that I have done this once and know how easy it is, I'll take much better care of my spikes and shoes. If your shoes are in good shape but the spikes are worn do it yourself and they will feel like new.
So far I have used the new spikes for 1.5 rounds and have felt a world of difference in my swing. I'm much more stable and my feet don't slide out from under me even if the ground is wet or it's mostly dirt.
What You Need: The tool or wrench, golf spikes, and your golf shoes
Total Cost: Spikes: $15.99 + Tool: $4.99 = $20.98 (plus tax)
Difficulty: Very easy even for the least handy people
Where But It: Any golf shop should have spikes. I bought mine from Dicks Sporting Goods.
Notes: I did not receive any compensation from Softspikes or Dicks Sporting Goods for this. I am simply informing you of what and where I bought everything. Also, this will make a mess. There is built up dirt under each spike which will come out when you remove it. It might be best to put a towel down or do it outside.
(Finished product compared to the old spikes)

Golf bags are a necessity is a golf course. Without them, players fight for a hole in a hole trying to bring their clubs and other golf accessories. It would take a whole day at the end of the course and would not be fun. Before the golfers tee off, they must ensure that they brought with them the golf accessories needed to play a great round. Some golfers go to the base, while others go for the luxury. Regardless of personal preference, what it takes to bag that counts.
