Our final round of the our New Hampshire Golf Trip was played at Breakfast Hill Golf Club in Greenland, NH. A short trip South on Route 1 from Portsmouth, this golf course made for a nice ending to our trip. I ended it with a 38 on the back 9 so of course I like this course.
People who know me know I don't like the word "nice". I feel it's pretty vague but when I think of this course, no other word comes to mind. It's a nice course. It's not great and it's not bad. It's a nice course.
Breakfast Hill Golf Club- The Course
Playing at 6,493 yards from the tips, Breakfast Hill Golf Course offers enough of a challenge to keep you interested but doesn't offer much in the way of scenery. I made a comment to one of the guys I was playing with (RM) it would be good to have a yardage book on this course. We played the black tees which played 5,981 yards and rating slope of 69/128.
(A view from the fairway to the green on the 8th hole, a 332 yard par 4)
There are several blind shots and a few shots requiring carry. It might have been the day we were playing but the 1st hole and 10th hole (which play side by side) were extremely windy and it was blowing in our face. The rest of the course had some wind, but nothing like these two holes.
Although it's not long, the course makes up by forcing you to place your tee shots. A few forced carries and some greens blocked by trees or rocks make you play your shot to one side of the fairway or have to bail out. Some of the holes have blind shots and if you have never played there before it can be a challenge.
(RM plays his second on the 13th hole. A 296 yard par 4 with water guarding the green)
The Par 3's
There are four par 3's throughout the 18 holes, 2 on the front and 2 on the back. The two on the front are straight forward and play reasonable lengths. The backside offers one with carry all the way and one with an obstructed view.
(The 14th hole: A 165 yard par 3 which is all carry)
(The 17th hole: A par 3 over this rock to an elevated green. It plays only 158 from the tips)
What Else
The course has a newer looking clubhouse as well as a grass driving range and putting green. There is no beverage cart out on the course but you can load up on snacks at the turn. I told my friend I'd mention the brownies which are the size of bricks and rather tasty.
(The driving range is grass and located near the clubhouse and 1st/10th tee.)
(The practice green located near the 9th green and clubhouse)
The course is very well marked. Their are signs which point your carts in the right direction and every tee box has a stone with a diagram of the hole. I HIGHLY recommend looking at this before teeing off. It can save you some trouble.
(Sings like the one above direct you throughout the round)
What WAM Thinks
As I mentioned above, it's a nice course. It offers some challenge but you can shoot low. I did shoot 38 on the back and I'm a 16.5 index right now. The 2nd hole is a good looking hole, a long par 5 with water on the left side and OB on the right. The houses provided attractive scenery as you prepare for you approach shot. We paid $65 each (actually my cousin paid so thank you JY) which I thought was a little much. It's a $50 course but they do have a short season in New England and need to make up for it.
Location: Greenland, NH
Cost: We paid $65 each on a Saturday afternoon.
Slope/Rating: 71.5/131 (from the tips)
Proshop: Yes they do.
Range: A grass one and putting green.
My Score: 84 (46-38)
Play Again: Yes, I would play here again

Notes: If you're looking for seafood after the round you can continue south to Rye or Hampton Beach. If not, just head back north on Route 1 to Portsmouth and you''ll find plenty!
